Uttarakhand Assembly Election

Uttarakhand is witnessing increased political activity ahead of the 2027 Assembly election, with the BJP and Congress strengthening their booth-level organisations. Both parties are focusing on voter outreach and constituency-level preparations as the election approaches.

Former Uttarakhand Chief Minister Harish Rawat has stepped down from key Congress positions following an Enforcement Directorate investigation involving his former aide in an alleged recruitment examination irregularities case. Rawat said the decision was intended to protect the Congress's anti-corruption image ahead of the 2027 Uttarakhand Assembly elections.

Uttarakhand politics has intensified after police registered an FIR over an alleged “purification” ceremony at Haldwani’s Ramlila Maidan following Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge’s rally. The BJP and Congress have intensified their political attacks as both parties focus on the Dalit vote ahead of the 2027 Assembly election.

The opposition INDIA bloc is preparing for a major political demonstration at Delhi's Ramlila Maidan on November 1, demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar over alleged irregularities in the electoral roll revision process.

Youth-led protests are bringing unemployment, examination-related controversies, inflation and institutional accountability into India's political debate. While the Congress and other opposition parties continue their campaign against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, a separate youth movement associated with the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) is drawing attention to concerns affecting students and young job seekers. The developments present the Narendra Modi government with questions that extend beyond conventional party politics, particularly regarding employment opportunities, education reforms and the expectations of India's younger generation.
