Karnataka’s Final Voter List Released After SIR

Big reduction in voter numbers

Before the revision, Karnataka had 5.54 crore registered voters. After the SIR process, the final list contains 4,55,00,011 electors—about 99.32 lakh fewer than earlier.

The final roll includes 2.25 crore men, 2.29 crore women, and 2,841 third-gender voters. It also has more than 6.83 lakh voters aged 18–19 and over 3.92 lakh voters aged 85 or above.

Why names were deleted

The SIR was carried out to identify voters who had died, shifted permanently, registered in more than one place, or were otherwise ineligible. More than 43.5 lakh voters received notices during the verification process, and 61,867 were later declared ineligible after hearings.

Although the draft list had removed over 1.07 crore names, the final roll restored about 8.64 lakh voters after people filed claims and objections.

How to check your name

Voters can check whether their names appear in the final list on the official voter-services portal or the Karnataka Chief Electoral Officer’s website. They can search using their EPIC or Voter ID number, or select their district, Assembly constituency, and polling-station part.

After locating the correct polling booth, voters can download the electoral-roll PDF and verify their name, address, age, part number, and serial number.

If your name is missing

If a voter’s name is not on the final list, it does not necessarily mean they are ineligible. The name may have been removed due to a change of address, incomplete verification, or a record-related issue. Such voters should contact their Booth Level Officer or electoral registration officer and apply again through Form 6 if required.

Why it matters

The removal of nearly one crore names has made the SIR a politically sensitive issue in Karnataka. Officials say the exercise was needed to clean and update the voter roll, while critics have raised concerns about whether eligible voters may have been wrongly excluded.

For ordinary voters, the most important step now is to check the final list, note their updated serial number, and take corrective action quickly if their name is missing.
