Bihar MLC Election Results 2026 Live Counting Underway for 8 Council Seats

Counting of votes for the Bihar Legislative Council elections has started today. The counting began at 8 AM on Tuesday amid tight security.
This election was held for eight seats of the Bihar Legislative Council. Voting took place on 23rd October. The eight seats include four Graduates constituencies and four Teachers constituencies.
According to the Election Commission, the voter turnout for Teachers seats was 74.55 percent and for Graduates seats it was 43.87 percent. More than 5.32 lakh voters were eligible to vote at 933 polling stations across Bihar.
The four Graduates seats are Patna, Darbhanga, Tirhut and Kosi. The four Teachers seats are Patna, Darbhanga, Tirhut and Saran. The terms of the current MLC will end on 16th November, so this election is very important.
A total of 150 candidates are in the fray. The ruling alliance of BJP and JD(U) has divided the seats. BJP is fighting on four seats and JD(U) is fighting on the other four. The main challenge is coming from Prashant Kishor’s Jan Suraaj Party, which is contesting on all eight seats.
The most talked about seat is Patna Graduates. Here, JD(U) spokesperson Neeraj Kumar is trying to win for the fourth time. But interestingly, JD(U) MLA Anant Singh openly campaigned against his own party and supported the Jan Suraaj candidate Anuj Kumar Singh. Police had to use firecrackers to control crowds outside Anant Singh’s house after the exit polls.
Another important point is that opposition RJD has alleged misuse of police power in Patna to harass its candidates.
Counting is being done at different centres in the state. In Patna, counting is going on at Bankipur Government Girls School. For Darbhanga seats, counting is at Khel Bhawan, and for Kosi, it is at Purnea.
The results will be announced by this evening. This election is being seen as a test for the NDA government after Nitish Kumar. If Jan Suraaj Party wins one or two seats, it will be a big entry for them in Bihar politics.
Political experts say that even though it is a small election, it will show the mood of teachers and graduates before the 2027 Assembly elections.
