UP Legislative Council Election Results 2026: 11 MLC Seats - Graduates & Teachers Constituency Winners List Out

Uttar Pradesh has declared the results for its ten Rajya Sabha seats, and in a surprising turn, all candidates have been elected unopposed. The announcement was made on October 9, 2026, by Returning Officer and Special Secretary Ajit Kumar Verma at the Legislative Council building in Lucknow. The election, which was initially scheduled for polling on October 16, concluded without a single vote being cast.
The reason behind the unopposed election was the rejection of nomination papers of two Independent candidates during the scrutiny process. After their rejection, exactly ten candidates remained in the fray for ten seats. As per election rules, when the number of valid candidates equals the number of seats, all are declared elected without a contest. Certificates were handed over to the winners in Room No. 8 of the Council building on the same day.
The Bharatiya Janata Party, which holds a massive majority in the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly, secured eight out of the ten seats. The Samajwadi Party managed to win two seats. This outcome directly reflects the current seat arithmetic in the state assembly and is seen as a trailer for the 2027 Assembly elections.
The eight BJP leaders who have made it to the Rajya Sabha are Dharampal Singh, Radhakant Ojha, Prakash Pal, Vidyasagar Sonkar, Gopi Krishna Pandey, Priyanka Singh Rawat, Ram Pratap Singh Chauhan, and Shruti Gangwar. All of them are considered loyal party workers with strong organizational backgrounds. Prakash Pal, who heads the BJP's Pichhda Morcha in the state, said after his victory that the party will form the government with a huge majority in 2027. Priyanka Singh Rawat also targeted the Samajwadi Party's PDA alliance, calling it dynastic politics.
From the Samajwadi Party, two prominent names have been elected. The first is senior leader and party strategist Professor Ram Gopal Yadav, whose certificate was collected by former MLC Rakesh Yadav on his behalf. The second is industrialist Dhanraj Parimal Nathwani, who is expected to collect his certificate on October 12. With this win, Samajwadi Party's total strength in the Rajya Sabha has increased to five, including sitting members Javed Ali, Ramji Lal Suman, and Jaya Bachchan.
The biggest loser in this election is the Bahujan Samaj Party. The BSP had one Rajya Sabha seat from Uttar Pradesh which it has now lost. The party did not field a candidate who could clear the nomination process, ending its representation from the state in the Upper House. This is a major setback for Mayawati's party ahead of the crucial assembly polls.
These biennial elections were necessary because the terms of ten sitting Rajya Sabha members from Uttar Pradesh are ending on November 25, 2026. The Election Commission had started the process in early October to fill these vacancies.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath congratulated all the newly elected BJP MPs on X. He stated that they would contribute to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of Viksit Bharat and work for the development of Uttar Pradesh.
Political analysts say this result confirms BJP's dominance in Uttar Pradesh. The same legislative majority that gave BJP eight Rajya Sabha seats will be tested again in the 2027 state elections. For now, BJP has successfully retained its eight seats and SP its two, with no change in the overall balance of power from UP in the Rajya Sabha.
