Bihar MLC Election Result 2026 Full List of 8 Winners, RJD Shocks BJP in Patna, Jan Suraaj Makes History

The final results for the Bihar Legislative Council elections for eight Teachers and Graduates seats are now out. The elections were held on October 23, and after a long counting process, all winners were declared on October 28.
At first glance, the score looks equal. NDA won four seats and the opposition along with independents won four seats. But if you look closely, this election has changed many equations in Bihar politics.
The biggest news came from Patna Teachers constituency. Here, Dr. Sanjeev Kumar of RJD defeated BJP's senior leader Nawal Kishore Yadav. Yadav had been winning this seat for the last 30 years, five times in a row. No one thought he would lose. But this time he lost by 1,057 votes. Sanjeev Kumar got 4,487 votes while Yadav got 3,430 votes. This is a big win for RJD because the teachers' vote has always been considered close to BJP.
In Tirhut Teachers, BJP saved its face. Its candidate Narendra Prasad Singh won the seat. In Saran Teachers, Independent candidate Rahul Raj won. He defeated candidates of big parties, which shows that in teachers' elections, personal image matters more than party symbol.
The most discussed result is from Darbhanga Teachers. Suresh Prasad Rai of Jan Suraaj Party has won from here. This is a historic moment. This is the first time that Prashant Kishor's Jan Suraaj Party has reached the Bihar Legislative Council. For a party that started just two years ago, this is a very big achievement. It proves that Jan Suraaj is now a serious political force in Bihar, not just a campaign.
Now coming to Graduates constituencies
Patna Graduates was the most high-profile seat. JDU's sitting MLC Neeraj Kumar has won for the fourth consecutive time. It was a tough fight. He was contesting against RJD and Jan Suraaj, and there was also pressure from former MLA Anant Singh. After winning, Neeraj Kumar said, "I don't have money or muscle power, I have only the love of graduates and teachers."
In Darbhanga Graduates, BJP's Sarvesh Kumar won. In Kosi Graduates, BJP's Dr. N. K. Yadav won in the first round of counting itself.
The last result came for Tirhut Graduates. This seat took the longest time because of the preferential voting system. After six rounds of counting, Independent candidate Vanshidhar Brajwasi was declared the winner.
The total number of voters for these eight seats was 5.4 lakh. The turnout in Teachers seats was 82.85% and in Graduates seats it was 53.42%. Even though the number of voters is small, teachers and graduates are opinion makers in every village, so every party takes this election very seriously.
What does this result mean? For BJP, losing Patna Teachers after 30 years is a setback. For JDU, retaining Patna Graduates shows that its organization is still strong. For RJD, this victory shows its growing reach. And for Jan Suraaj, this one MLC seat is the beginning of a new chapter. Now they will have a voice inside the Council.
All eight newly elected MLC will take oath in Patna next week.
