Tamil Nadu's Biggest Job Scam: Rs 634 Crore Cash-for-Jobs Scam - DVAC Raids on DMK Leader KN Nehru

Chennai, Oct 30, 2026 - In what could be Tamil Nadu's biggest recruitment scam in a decade, the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) on Thursday launched massive raids on senior DMK leader and former Municipal Administration Minister KN Nehru.
What Happened Today?
At 6 AM, DVAC teams with over 100 officers raided 25 locations simultaneously - Chennai, Trichy, Coimbatore, and Karur. Locations include Nehru's house in Thillai Nagar, Trichy, his brother's office, and houses of his former PAs.
During the search, officials seized:
- 170 material evidences
- 13 digital evidences - laptops, pen drives, mobile phones
- Property documents worth crores
- Bank transaction details
The former minister was questioned for over an hour by Deputy SP Hema Chithra and her team.
What is the Rs 634 Crore Scam?
This is not a new case. The case is based on an ED dossier which claims:
> During DMK rule, when KN Nehru was Municipal Administration and Water Supply Minister, there was large-scale corruption in recruitment of Junior Engineers, Health Inspectors, and other posts.
- Total posts: 2,538 posts in Municipal Administration Department
- Bribe per post: Rs 15 lakh to Rs 40 lakh
- Total collection: Rs 634 Crore
- Method: Money collected through middle-men, benamis, and associates
DVAC registered FIR alleging irregularities in recruitment, contract allocation, and transfers during Nehru's tenure.
Nehru's Response & Political Drama
KN Nehru and DMK have called it "Vendetta politics by TVK Government."
Nehru approached Madras High Court to stop the raids, but court refused to give interim relief. The court said investigation can continue.
DMK President MK Stalin, who himself is in opposition now, slammed the ruling Tamil Vikatan Katchi (TVK) government led by Vijay, saying these raids before Tiruchi East by-election are "Raidshow for media to divert attention".
TVK government says: "We are acting on ED report, no political motive."
Why is This News So Big?
1. KN Nehru is not a small leader - He is DMK Principal Secretary, 6-time MLA from Trichy West, and was considered No.2 in previous DMK cabinet.
2. Timing: Just before Tiruchirapalli East by-election, where DMK and TVK are directly fighting.
3. Scale: Rs 634 Crore is one of the biggest cash-for-jobs scam amounts in South India after Karnataka's PSI scam and APPSC scam.
What Happens Next?
DVAC sources say they have found WhatsApp chats, Excel sheets with names of candidates and amounts paid. Forensic analysis of 13 digital evidences will take 2 weeks.
If charges are proved, this will be the biggest blow to DMK after losing power.
