Tamil Nadu Politics Heats Up: AIADMK vs TVK and DMK's New Masterstroke

Tamil Nadu's politics which was always a two-party fight between DMK and AIADMK, now has a new third player - Actor Vijay's Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK). And the war of words is getting intense day by day.
1. EPS Targets Vijay on Power Cuts
Just yesterday, AIADMK General Secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami (EPS) made a direct attack on TVK Chief Vijay. He said, "Tamil Nadu under TVK-influenced politics is facing severe power cuts and law and order failure." EPS's point is clear. He wants to show AIADMK as the real opposition, not TVK. For the last few months, Vijay has been doing huge public meetings in Vikravandi, Coimbatore and Madurai, drawing lakhs of youngsters. AIADMK is worried that its traditional vote bank, especially the youth and neutral voters, is shifting to TVK before the 2026 Assembly elections. TVK has hit back saying, "Both DMK and AIADMK ruled for 50 years, they are responsible for all EB lines, power shortage and debts in TNEB. We have not even come to power yet."
2. DMK Plays a Different Game - Social Justice Survey
While AIADMK and TVK are fighting over power cuts, Chief Minister M.K. Stalin's DMK government has played a very clever political card. On Thursday, the Tamil Nadu cabinet approved a State-wide Social Justice Survey. The details are: It will be conducted AFTER the National Census. A Commission headed by a retired High Court Judge will lead it. It will likely happen in Feb-March 2027.The aim is to get exact data on caste, education, employment and economic status. Why is this important? DMK knows that after the caste census debate at the national level, whoever owns the social justice narrative will own the Dravidian vote. With VCK Chief Thirumavalavan already supporting this survey, DMK is trying to consolidate OBC, SC, ST votes.
3. What it means for 2026 Elections
Right now the scene in Tamil Nadu is like a triangle: DMK + Allies (Congress, VCK, Left): Holding power, pushing social justice and Dravidian model. AIADMK + BJP: Trying to stay relevant, attacking DMK on corruption and power. TVK: Vijay is projecting himself as an alternative to both, talking about corruption-free and youth politics. EPS's comment on power cuts is not just about electricity. It's about showing "Who is the real opposition to DMK?" If TVK is able to make people believe that AIADMK is a weak opposition, TVK can replace them. For the common people of Tamil Nadu, the real questions remain - Will there be uninterrupted power in summer? Will the social justice survey really bring benefits? And will Vijay be able to convert cinema fans into voters? The next 6 months will decide whether Tamil Nadu will see a two-cornered fight or a historic three-cornered fight.
