Goa Politics : Rahul Gandhi's Goy Rakhonn Yatra Finale Amid Major Voter List Scam

Goa's politics witnessed a major upheaval today, on 18th October 2026. On one hand, Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, is leading a foot march on the streets of Goa, while on the other hand, a major scam of adding Nepalese nationals to the voter list has come to light. Ahead of the 2027 Goa Assembly elections, both these issues have completely cornered the BJP government.
Rahul Gandhi's Goy Rakhonn Yatra Finale Today, 18th October 2026
The Congress party had started the Goy Rakhonn Yatra on 22nd September under the Save Goa campaign. Covering all 40 Assembly constituencies of Goa, the yatra will conclude today, starting from Daivadnya Bhawan in Calconda (Canacona) and ending at Dr. Rajendra Prasad Stadium in Margao.
Rahul Gandhi himself informed about it by posting on X and launched a sharp attack on the BJP. He wrote, "BJP's record in Goa: 15 years of loot and misgovernance. 15 years of theft. Land theft. Money theft. Jobs theft. MLA theft. And above all, vote theft. Together, let's tell the BJP Goa is not for sale. Goa belongs to Goans.
This visit of Rahul Gandhi is being considered as the semi-final for the 2027 elections. In 2022, the BJP emerged as the single largest party by winning 20 seats, while the Congress got only 11 seats. This time, the Congress is preparing to take on the BJP in alliance with GFP, AAP, and other smaller parties. The Goa Pradesh Congress Committee has said that Rahul's yatra will send a message to save Goa's identity, dignity, and future.
On The Other Side, Nepalese Voter Scam Major Allegation By Goa Forward Party
Goa Forward Party Chief and Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai made a big revelation in a press conference yesterday evening. He alleged that during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR), even Nepalese nationals have been made voters in Goa's voter list.
Sardesai said, "Nepalese nationals have been added to the voter list in Goa during the SIR exercise. How can any foreign national be a part of India's electoral roll? Invisible voters have been added, while the names of eligible voters are missing."
He also alleged that more than 50 voters have been illegally shifted from the Curtorim Assembly constituency to Fatorda, while their address remains the same.
What Will Be The Next Step In Goa Politics?
Goa currently has 40 Assembly seats. The BJP has 20, Congress has 11, AAP has 2, GFP has 1, and others have 6 seats. Although the 2027 elections are still far away, issues like the Yatra, the voter list scam, and the Baina Beach lease are already heating up the political atmosphere.
All eyes are now on how much crowd gathers in Rahul Gandhi's yatra today and what action the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) takes on the Nepalese voter issue.
