FCRA Amendment Bill 2026: Joint Parliamentary Committee to Examine Proposed Changes

The proposed Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Amendment Bill, 2026 is set for further parliamentary scrutiny, with the Union Home Ministry scheduled to brief a Joint Parliamentary Committee on September 18.
The development comes after objections from several stakeholders led to the government delaying the Bill’s passage in Parliament. The committee is expected to examine the proposed amendments and hear views before the legislative process moves forward.
According to reports, one of the proposed changes would allow a government-appointed authority to take over assets created through foreign donations if an organisation fails to retain its registration under the Foreign Contribution Regulation Act.
The proposed legislation has therefore become an important issue in national Politics, particularly because the FCRA governs how eligible organisations receive and utilise foreign contributions in India.
