Tamil Nadu Bypolls

After Madurantakam Setback, Stalin Gears Up for Five-Cornered Battle; Shortlist of Candidates Sought for Karur and Four Other Seats

Voting is underway in the Madurantakam and Dharapuram Assembly constituencies on October 6, putting Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam and Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay before their first major bypoll test since forming the government.

The Tamil Nadu Assembly bypolls in Madurantakam and Dharapuram are set for October 6, with counting on October 9. AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami has expressed confidence in his party's prospects, while ruling TVK has renominated the two former AIADMK MLAs whose resignations created the vacancies. DMK, CPI, CPI(M), NTK and independent candidates are also in the fray, with 49 candidates remaining across the two constituencies.

The upcoming Madurantakam and Dharapuram Assembly bypolls are emerging as a major political test in Tamil Nadu. The BJP has announced full support for AIADMK, adding a new dimension to the contest as the newly formed TVK government faces its first direct electoral challenge.
