UP’s Fifth-Largest Exporting State, Bhadohi Carpets Make Major Contribution: CM Yogi

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath highlighted the growing contribution of Bhadohi’s carpet industry to the State’s exports, saying the traditional craftsmanship of the region is gaining greater recognition in international markets.
The Chief Minister made the remarks while highlighting the golden jubilee edition of the India Carpet Expo and the growing global demand for Bhadohi’s handmade carpets.
In a post on X on October 4, Yogi Adityanath said Uttar Pradesh’s exports have increased by nearly 2.27 times over the last 10 years and have crossed ₹2 lakh crore. He said Uttar Pradesh is now the fifth-largest exporting State in the country.
The Chief Minister specifically pointed to Bhadohi’s carpet industry as an important contributor to the State’s export performance. He said the craftsmanship of Bhadohi has helped take Uttar Pradesh's traditional products to markets around the world.
Yogi said that the talent and craftsmanship of Bhadohi had earlier struggled to access adequate facilities and opportunities. According to him, the State government is now working to connect traditional industries with development opportunities, markets and global demand.
The Chief Minister also highlighted the growing international demand for Bhadohi's handmade carpets, describing the sector as an important representation of Uttar Pradesh's craftsmanship on the global stage.
The India Carpet Expo provides a platform for carpet manufacturers, exporters, buyers and other stakeholders from the industry to connect with international markets. The golden jubilee edition also puts the spotlight on the long-standing importance of the carpet sector to Bhadohi and Uttar Pradesh.
The State government's focus on exports and traditional industries comes as Uttar Pradesh seeks to expand its role in India's manufacturing and export economy. The government has also been highlighting the development of local industries and their connection with national and international markets.
Bhadohi's carpet industry has long been associated with handmade carpets and traditional weaving skills. Greater access to markets, infrastructure and export opportunities could help local artisans and businesses expand their reach.
Yogi Adityanath's remarks underline the government's broader “double-engine” development narrative, under which the State seeks to combine infrastructure and economic development with opportunities for traditional industries and local producers.
The growth in exports and the international demand for Bhadohi carpets are being presented by the State government as examples of how local craftsmanship can contribute to Uttar Pradesh's wider economic ambitions.
