Harish Rawat Continues Uttarakhand Yatra Despite Congress Warning

Harish Rawat Continues Uttarakhand Yatra Despite Congress Direction
Former Uttarakhand Chief Minister Harish Rawat has continued his Dhanyawad evam Jan Samvad Yatra despite instructions from the Congress high command to cancel the programme.
Rawat's decision has highlighted internal differences within the Uttarakhand Congress at a time when the party is preparing for the 2027 Assembly elections.
Congress Leadership Objects to Solo Programme
The Congress leadership had asked Rawat not to continue with the yatra, arguing that individual programmes could affect the party's effort to present a united front.
Congress general secretary and Uttarakhand in-charge Kumari Selja had written to Rawat, stating that the yatra had not been approved by the party leadership or the state Congress president.
The leadership has instead emphasised collective programmes involving senior leaders and the wider organisation.
Rawat Continues the Yatra
Despite the direction, Rawat went ahead with the programme.
He travelled on the Jaspur-Haldwani route as part of his public outreach campaign, meeting people and continuing political engagement in the state.
Rawat's supporters have described the yatra as an effort to strengthen the Congress organisation and connect with people ahead of the Assembly election.
The Congress leadership, however, has expressed concern about the need for coordination and party discipline.
Internal Differences Surface Ahead of Election
The disagreement comes at a politically important time for Uttarakhand Congress.
The party is preparing for the 2027 Assembly election, and the leadership wants senior figures to work under a coordinated campaign structure.
Rawat remains one of the most prominent Congress leaders in the state, having previously served as Chief Minister. His continued independent outreach has therefore attracted considerable attention.
The current disagreement is less about the existence of public outreach itself and more about whether such programmes should be conducted independently or under the party's approved campaign framework.
Rawat Seeks Meeting With Congress Leadership
Rawat has also sought a meeting with senior Congress leaders to discuss the issue.
Reports indicate that he has responded to the concerns raised by the party and requested an appointment with the leadership. A discussion with party functionaries could help clarify the future of his political outreach programme.
The development suggests that both sides are still engaged in discussions rather than treating the disagreement as a final organisational break.
Focus on 2027 Uttarakhand Election
The next Assembly election is the larger political backdrop to the dispute.
Congress will need coordination between its state leadership, senior politicians and grassroots workers as campaigning intensifies.
Rawat's public outreach gives him a separate political presence, while the party leadership is seeking to ensure that major campaign programmes are collectively managed.
How the issue develops in the coming weeks could influence the internal organisation of the state Congress.
For now, Harish Rawat has continued his yatra despite the high command's objection, while the Congress leadership is pushing for a more coordinated campaign approach ahead of the 2027 Uttarakhand election.
