CBI Files Corruption Case Against Punjab CM’s Aide After High Court Order

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has registered a corruption case against an Officer on Special Duty (OSD) in Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s office and five other individuals, a day after the Punjab and Haryana High Court directed the agency to investigate allegations of corruption linked to the Chief Minister’s office.
The CBI registered the FIR on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, naming six accused, including two public servants, middlemen and their associates.
According to the CBI, the case relates to allegations that the accused influenced and manipulated administrative and official matters in exchange for monetary benefits.
The allegations include attempts to influence the postings of IAS and IPS officers, departmental proceedings, policy formulation, administrative approvals and tender conditions.
The CBI is also examining alleged interference in licensing matters, land-use conversion issues, property disputes, and revenue and land-related matters.
The agency said the alleged activities were carried out in exchange for pecuniary benefits. The investigation will seek to establish the nature of the alleged transactions, the role of the accused and whether official positions were misused.
The case comes shortly after the Punjab and Haryana High Court directed the CBI to investigate the corruption allegations. The court's order led to the central agency formally registering the case and beginning its investigation.
The development could have political implications in Punjab, where the Aam Aadmi Party government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has repeatedly positioned itself as being committed to transparency and action against corruption.
At this stage, the allegations are subject to investigation, and the registration of an FIR does not by itself establish the guilt of the accused.
The CBI investigation is expected to examine documentary evidence, official decisions, financial transactions and the alleged links between public officials and intermediaries.
Expert View
The CBI case is significant because the allegations concern sensitive administrative functions, including officer postings, tenders, licensing and land-related matters. The investigation will be closely watched to determine whether the alleged influence-peddling involved misuse of official authority and financial benefits.
