Tensions have emerged between the Congress and Samajwadi Party amid discussions over seat-sharing in Uttar Pradesh ahead of the 2027 Assembly elections. A meeting between Congress UP in-charge Rajendra Pal Gautam and former SP leader Swami Prasad Maurya has reportedly upset Akhilesh Yadav's party, raising questions about coordination within the INDIA bloc.

The Samajwadi Party and Congress are facing fresh tensions over seat-sharing for the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections. While the SP wants details of Congress candidates’ winnability, Congress has shared a list of 180 constituencies and pushed for a larger share of seats.

The Congress has alleged more than 16,000 irregularities in voter entries in Uttar Pradesh’s Pilibhit Sadar Assembly constituency during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. The state’s Chief Electoral Officer has directed officials to resolve duplicate entries before the draft voter list is published on November 12, 2026.
