Punjab Farmers

Punjab’s 2027 Assembly contest is taking shape around competing campaigns on governance, welfare, drugs, agriculture and regional politics. AAP has begun a door-to-door campaign highlighting its government’s record, while BJP is conducting an anti-drug yatra across the state. At the same time, Congress, SAD and Akali Dal (Waris Punjab De) are working to expand their organisational and political space ahead of the election.

Punjab's paddy procurement season is likely to keep farmer concerns over procurement procedures, fertiliser availability and stubble management in focus. The government's response to these demands, including procurement arrangements and the proposed special Assembly session, will be closely watched by farmer organisations and political parties.

Punjab's 2027 Assembly contest is already entering an active organisational phase, with AAP, BJP and Congress strengthening their respective ground networks. The emerging campaign is likely to focus heavily on governance, agriculture, employment, drug-related concerns, welfare and water management.

Punjab politics has taken a new turn after farmers called off a week-long protest following written assurances from the state government. The government agreed to convene a special Assembly session on interstate water agreements and address several agricultural demands, temporarily reducing tensions between farmers and the AAP administration.
