Punjab Election 2027: BJP’s Nasha Mukt Yatra Triggers Fresh Political War With AAP

Punjab, September 21, 2026: The political campaign for the 2027 Punjab Assembly elections has intensified as the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) launches its statewide “Nasha Mukt Punjab Yatra”, putting the issue of drug abuse at the centre of its election (opens in a new tab) outreach. The 13-day campaign began in Pathankot and is scheduled to cover nearly 4,000 kilometres across the state's 117 Assembly constituencies before concluding in Jalandhar on September 30.
The BJP's campaign has triggered a fresh exchange between the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the opposition party. Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has questioned the BJP's record on the drug issue during its earlier alliance with the Shiromani Akali Dal, while the BJP has criticised the AAP government over deadlines and promises related to tackling drugs.
The upcoming Rallies are expected to become an important part of the BJP's election outreach. Union Home Minister Amit Shah is scheduled to address the concluding rally in Jalandhar on September 30. The campaign and Shah's planned public Speech are being positioned by the BJP as part of its broader preparations for the 2027 Assembly election.
