Kerala CPI(M) State Committee Meeting: Party Retains Top Leadership Amid Organisational Review

Kerala, September 16, 2026: The Communist Party of India (Marxist), or CPI(M), has completed its extended state committee meeting in Kozhikode, with the party opting for limited organisational changes while retaining its top leadership. The meeting comes four months after the party lost power in Kerala in the Assembly elections.
More than 300 senior leaders and invitees from the central leadership participated in the meeting. Discussions reportedly focused on strengthening the party organisation, addressing organisational shortcomings and identifying ways to improve the party's functioning following the election setback.
The CPI(M)'s recent electoral performance has become an important subject in Kerala Politics. The party's strength in the Assembly declined substantially, with its numbers reportedly falling from 62 seats to 26 after the election. The meeting therefore provided an opportunity for the leadership to review the organisation and discuss future strategies.
Despite discussions about organisational improvement, the meeting did not result in a change at the top leadership level. The decision indicates that the party's immediate focus is on organisational restructuring and strengthening its network rather than replacing its senior leadership.
