Karnataka Cabinet Approves ₹151 Crore for Panchayat Elections, Ballot Boxes and Live Webcasting

The Karnataka Cabinet has approved ₹151.31 crore for procuring ballot boxes and implementing live webcasting for the upcoming gram, taluk and zilla panchayat elections. The decision comes as Karnataka continues preparations for rural local body Elections.
The Cabinet decision was taken during a special meeting chaired by Chief Minister D K Shivakumar in Mangaluru on September 18. The approved amount will be used to procure around 72,000 ballot boxes and support live webcasting of polling activities.
Karnataka has amended the Karnataka Gram Swaraj and Panchayat Raj Act to provide for voting through secret paper ballots in these rural local body elections. The government has indicated that gram, taluk and zilla panchayat elections are expected to be conducted by December, subject to completion of electoral-roll revision and other preparations.
