Satish Poonia

BJP Punjab in-charge Satish Poonia has reiterated that the party will contest all 117 Assembly seats independently in the 2027 Punjab election, amid speculation about a possible BJP-SAD alliance.

BJP-SAD alliance discussions were reported in August 2026, including a proposed 70-47 seat formula, but Punjab BJP chief Kewal Singh Dhillon and BJP in-charge Satish Poonia subsequently said the BJP would contest all 117 Assembly seats on its own. No final alliance or seat-sharing agreement has been announced.

Rahul Gandhi's “Chhatron Ki Goonj” programme in Indore triggered a BJP–Congress dispute after a comedian mimicked Prime Minister Narendra Modi during a performance. BJP leaders criticised the act and sought an apology, while Congress representatives defended it as political satire and mimicry.

Punjab is entering an increasingly active phase of preparations for the 2027 Punjab Assembly election, with the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Congress, BJP and other Political Parties stepping up organisational and campaign activities across the state.
